- HISTORY OF PRIDELANDS SDA CHURCH
“Thus far the Lord has helped us.” – 1 Samuel 7:12
The story of SDA Pridelands is a powerful testimony to God’s providence and the unifying power of fellowship. In April 2023, a small group of believers began gathering for Friday Vespers in an office generously offered by one of their own within Greatwall Gardens. Though only five in number, they were united by a shared burden—to form a prayer cell that would meet the spiritual needs of Adventist members within the local community.
By November 2023, the office could no longer accommodate the growing number of worshippers—many of whom were unable to attend distant Sabbath services, especially while raising young children. The Friday meetings had become a spiritual lifeline: reviving faith, restoring fellowship, and drawing back members who had been away from church for years.
With guidance and support from Pastor Philemon Kitonga and leaders from neighboring SDA churches, the group was granted permission to begin Sabbath worship as a prayer cell.
On April 6, 2024, SDA Pridelands held its first full Sabbath service—an all-day worship attended by 51 adults and 25 children. God’s hand was evident. Shortly afterward, the East Nairobi Field (ENF) officially adopted the group as a Sabbath School and appointed interim leaders to provide both spiritual and administrative guidance. The Lord continued to bless the ministry through dedicated preachers, answered prayers, and visible spiritual growth among members.
A major milestone came on October 19, 2024, when 19 souls were baptized, publicly committing their lives to Jesus Christ. Since then, the church has experienced sustained growth. With the nurturing of nearly 20 chaplains, the establishment of two active Sabbath Schools, and consistent visitations and fellowship-building activities. These efforts have strengthened community bonds and expanded the church’s outreach.
In response to the need for a permanent place of worship, the church launched a fundraising campaign, raising over KSH 5 million—a remarkable testament to the unity, faith, and generosity of members and friends.
On February 22, 2025, SDA Pridelands was officially organized as a fully-fledged church under the patronage of ENF. Today, the church continues to thrive, with membership approaching 300, including over 108 individuals received through baptism or transfer.
As we reflect on this journey, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness and declare with confidence: “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” To God be the glory—great things He has done!
